Big Energy Saving Week - Jan 17th - 23rd
Big Energy Saving Week is a national campaign, designed to help people and businesses to cut down on their energy bills. Publicly, it focuses on raising awareness of how to switch suppliers and tariffs, providing access to various discounts and offering tips to help improve energy efficiency. 2022 will be the 9th year that businesses, Citizen Advice and the Energy Saving Trust band together to ensure an abundance of information and advice is available.
At The Shower Lab, reducing energy usage falls underneath one of our key sustainability pillars. It is something we’re exceptional dedicated to and have been trying to implement over the past 12 months. Some of the changes we have made include:
Reducing the use of continuous lighting throughout our HO, in accordance with health and safety requirements and the needs of our employees.
Removing all continuously boiling water urns which were previously boiling over 30 litres of water for up to 10 hours during the working day. We know how important that morning cuppa is though - so we’ve replaced them with kettles for our team.
Mindfully using our air-conditioning and heating systems to eliminate wasted use in lesser-used rooms (such as our meeting rooms).
We are also fortunate enough to have a dedicated team behind us who have taken their responsibility to the environment just as important as us. These are some of the actions that they are taking in their own homes:
"Since having a water meter installed it has made me much more aware of how much water I am using. I now actively reduce the length of time in the shower which not only saves water but also saves on electricity."
"Even though I have an electric car, I have noticed how many miles are saved by using the cruise control as often as possible, which means I have less miles to replenish on recharging, saving electricity."
"I consciously think about walking to places whenever possible instead of using my car."
"I do batch cooking more often to help reduce energy usage."
"I've got timers on my lighting at home so that lights are never left on unnecessarily too long into the evening."
"At home, I turn off all electrical equipment on standby."
“We have switched to lined curtains in a bid to keep heat in and only set the dishwasher on when it is full’
